What's "Civic Leadership?"

Civic often evokes ideas of government or voting.  Civic engagement involves a broader array of activities than just government administration or voting habits of the populace.

The New Oxford American Dictionary defines civic as “relating to the duties or activities of people in relation to their town, city, or local area.”

The Andrews Institute for Civic Leadership says it's, "government, business and not for profit leaders working together for the common good of the community. (Leading Voices)

Civic involves a relationship and interaction between people and their community.

Collaborative Leadership

This model of leadership is collaborative leadership.  In collaborative leadership, the group makes decisions and the leader acts as a facilitator of the process. It's most often practiced in the community setting because it's most useful in complex situations where no one entity has the resources to solve the problem.

Collaborative leaders are needed across sectors, in business, nonprofit and government, to work together to build a strong community.
